Information

Spikenodes are a type of crustacean creature that relies on its venomous spikes as a defense measure. It typically feeds on forage, refuse and carrion. It has even been observed feeding on creatures killed by its venomous spikes

Behavior

Spikenodes are not typically aggressive but they are undeterred by animal or humanoid activity when seeking food, which can cause them to be problematic or even deadly to those that interfere. 

Tactics

Spikenodes will simply walk towards their intended destination and will walk into creatures that get in their way, potentially stabbing them with their venomous spikes. 

When threatened or attacked spikenodes can launch a flurry of their venomous spines.

Weaknesses

Spikenodes are a small crustacean, as such, they are vulnerable to Blunt Damage.

While their shell is tough it causes them to have difficulty righting themselves from a prone position. To Stand from a Prone Position they must expend 5 meters of Movement and Roll a DEX Saving Throw. The DC is 14. If they Pass they may stand and move as normal, if they Fail, they remain prone.

Using a Targeted Attack on this creature's soft underside is the only way to deal damage solely to its smaller HP Pool, rather than both that and its Armor Pool.

Traits

Protective Venomous Spikes

The creature possesses a defensive mechanism in the form of large, pointed and venomous spikes on its exterior.

Effect: Touching or Hitting this creature with a Bite, Claw, Sting, Gore, Charge or Grapple Attack causes the Attacker to be dealt 1d10+4 Venom Damage.

Exoskeleton II

The Creature possesses an Exoskeleton that acts like Flexible Armor, protecting them from harm.

Effect: +6 AC and + 20 Armor Points

The creature is capable of emitting a powerful blast of Venomous Spikes.

Effect: A Blast of Venomous Spikes is generated in the Area. Creatures within the Area must Roll a DEX or CON Saving Throw. The DC is 18.

Fail: Creatures that Fail the Saving Throw are dealt 2d8 + 2 Venom Damage.

Pass: Creatures that Pass the Saving Throw are dealt half the above damage.
