Information

Hydras are massive sea serpents with a hyperactive Regenerative Trait. Each time a part of a hydra's body is severed it immediately grows 2 replacement Heads or Tails, depending on where the severance occurred. Due to this unique adaptation hydras become more aggressive and unpredictable the more heads they grow, as more minds vie for control of the body’s movements.

Behavior

Hydras are particularly bold and aggressive, even for sea snakes. They are ill tempered and perpetually hungry due to the extreme calorie cost of their incredible regenerative abilities. Hydras only sleep for 2 hours a day, spending almost every waking second hunting or tracking creatures in search of their next meal.

Tactics

Hydras tend to attack first and assess the situation later. This causes them to regularly be damaged or grabbed by other creatures. Rather than live with a damaged or immobilized body part Hydras can release a chemical that disassembles connective tissue in the desired area. Within moments the body part easily separates from the hydra's body allowing it to free itself, grow two replacements and resume hunting or escaping.

Weaknesses

Hydras are vulnerable to burns and cannot regenerate from cauterized tissues.

Burn Vulnerability

Effect: The creature is considered to be Vulnerable to Burn Damage.

Scaled Hide IV

The Creature Possesses a hardened scaly hide that acts like fine Armor, protecting it from harm.

Effect: +10 AC, + 30 Armor Points

Stealthy

The creature is good at avoiding detection.

Effect: +2 to all Stealth Skill Checks.

Heat Vision

Effect: The creature can detect warm blooded creatures via the heat they put out and can also visually see heat up to a range of 10 meters. The type of vision completely negates stealth rolls made by warm blooded creatures unless they are somehow insulating their body heat. 

Heavy

Effect: The creature is particularly dense and heavy and Reduces Forced Movement on itself by ½ 

Long

Effect: The Creature is particularly lengthy and it may occupy all of its Map Tiles in a continuous line as part of its movement.

Nimble III

Effect: The Creatures Dexterity Score is Increased by +6.

Padding

Effect: The Creature is Resistant to Blunt Damage.

Blubber

Effect: The Creature is Resistant to Puncture Damage.

Perceptive

The creature has keen senses.

Effect: +2 to Perception Skill Checks.

Abilities

Hydra

The creature can rapidly regenerate lost heads or body parts and always grows two more from the stump to replace it. 

Effect: Whenever hydra is wounded it has one head or tail severed. 

Whenever a head or tail is severed the Hydra must spend 1 Stamina or Might to regain 1d8+CON Modifier HP and immediately grow 2 new Heads or tails and acquire the Trait “Multi-Attack”, granting the creature one more Melee Attack at its disposal whenever it uses its Action to Attack.

It cannot regenerate from an injury caused by Burn Damage.

If a hydra cannot spend 1 Stamina or Might to regenerate it instead spends 20 HP and does not Regain HP from the Hydra Ability as it normally does.

The Creature Possesses a Deadly Whip-like Appendage that it wields as a Natural Weapon.

Bite IV

The Creature possesses a Powerful Bite Attack.

Damage: 2d6 + 2 + STR Modifier Slash or Puncture Damage

Eat Whole III

The creature, despite its size, is capable of enveloping and consuming creatures of medium size or smaller. 

If it hits, the attack deals double damage and the target creature is enveloped by the attacking creature.

Creatures that have been enveloped, at the start of each turn, receive a number of d8’s of Blunt/Acid Damage equal to the consuming creature’s CON Modifier. The consumed creature is considered to be immobilized, Soaked, Suffocating and SIlenced. These conditions end if the consumed creature Escapes, is Freed or the consuming creature is Slain or Incapacitated.
