Description

Adult Chitrins greatly resemble ants at a larger scale. They have two sets of four fingered arms and one set of legs and are covered entirely by a thick chitinous hide. Their large eyes dominate their faces and mandibles and antennae of various shapes are common. Their coloration varies depending on the environment they inhabit and changes in coloration, mandible and carapace shape can occur in a single generation, making their species extremely diverse and adaptable.

Society

Superorganism Society

The Chitrin in general believe in the insignificance of the one and the possibilities of the many. Chitrins still connected to the hive unquestioningly follow the current queen's orders and work hard to do their part to benefit the superorganism. That being said, all Chitrin are permitted and encouraged to engage in the "Walk Far", a tradition where a young Chitrin goes out into the world to experience what it has to offer before returning to the hive. There is no time restriction as the knowledge these "Far Walkers" gain along their journey is considered invaluable to the hive when they return.

Hierarchical Structuring

In addition to their nearly unanimous support of the hive, Chitrin are also literally bred for specific fields of work. Due to this fact the actual abilities and appearance of different Chitrin can vary tremendously, even in the same hive.

Grub Chitrin

Infant Chitrin Life Phase

Average Height 100 cm
Average Weight 40 kg
Lifespan 7 Years(Until Nymph life phase)
Age of Adulthood N/A
Attribute Modifiers +2 INT
Movement Speed 4 Meters
Movement Types Walking
HP Die Type d8
Languages Chiterin and Uman

Description

Grub Chitrin have not yet developed the hard exoskeletons and strong legs of their older siblings, resulting in a less mobile and more vulnerable member of society. Grubs may not be as big or strong but in this stage of development their minds are like sponges collecting and cataloging information at an impressive rate. Their bodies, currently in a state of growth, are easily repaired by their internal systems when damaged, so long as they maintain their high calorie diet. This phase of life lasts from ages 7 to 14, after which grubs promptly metamorphosize into Nymphs within 3 days of their 14th birthday. The metamorphosis process lasts for about 7 hours, during which the grub is vulnerable and cannot defend itself, being considered Unconscious.

Traits

Soft Skinned

Grubs do not yet have the chitinous outer shell distinctive to their race and are particularly susceptible to Environmental Damage and physical attacks. Chitrin Grubs are considered to be Vulnerable to Enviro and Slash Damage.

No Bones, Soft Flesh

Grub's limbs are much easier to sever than other humanoids since a targeted attack would only need to penetrate Soft Flesh rather than both Flesh and Bone.

Vulnerable to Slash Damage.

Limited Mobility

Grubs do not yet have fully developed limbs and subsequently suffer from reduced mobility.

4 Meter Movement Speed.

Abilities

Sponge Brain

Grub's brains are notorious for being able to absorb amazing amounts of information over time. While most grubs never leave the hive, the ones that do come back with a swollen head. Grub Chitrin may gain training in an additional skill each time they level up.

Regenerating

So long as grubs maintain their typical high calorie diet, they can rapidly regenerate damaged or severed tissue. Grubs regenerate HP at a rate of 1 per turn as long as they continue to consume at least 10,000 calories per day. Grubs regrow lost limbs at a rate of one per hour while resting or sleeping. A grub can survive having its head removed or even being cut in half, but the former, if not recovered, results in the loss of all memories prior to the incident. This often warrants the loss of skills and abilities not related to muscle memory.

Nymph Chitrin

Pubescant Chitrin Life Phase

Average Height 160 cm
Average Weight 40 kg
Lifespan 1-2 Years(Until Adult life phase)
Age of Adulthood N/A
Attribute Modifiers +1 WIS and +1 DEX
Movement Speed 6 Meters
Movement Types Walking
HP Die Type d8
Languages Chiterin and Uman

Description

At this stage in life, nymphs have fully taken on the overall body shape and design of the chitrin race, however, their mandibles and exoskeletons have not been formed to a specific role. Nymphs in the hive are placed in specific work fields which are known to induce various stress hormones, which when sufficiently built up in the nymph’s system, cause it to metamorphosize into the final life phase of Chitrin. The type of stress hormone buildup in each Nymph Chitrin determines which final form their body will take. The Nymph phase usually only lasts for 1 to 2 years, depending on buildup rates.

Traits

Twinned Appendages

All Chitrin, except grubs, have two sets of arms with grasping appendages. This grants them 1 additional Motion per turn. They may also comfortably wield up to two 2 handed weapons and can gain the benefit of the Variable Trait twice.

Exoskeleton I

Nymph Chitrin are covered in a semi-flexible, chitinous hide that protects their internal organs. They have no internal bones which has pros and cons.

Pros: Nymph Chitrin are considered to have Resistance to Fall Damage and always reduce a number of fall damage dice equal to their constitution modifier to 1.

Cons: Nymph Chitrin limbs are much easier to sever than other humanoids since a targeted attack would only need to penetrate Flesh rather than both Flesh and Bone. Severed Limbs regrow in 1d4 days.

Abilities

Rhythm Gland

Nymph physiology has not yet adapted to specific environmental conditions, to combat this Nymphs all metamorphe with an organ on their backs, called a Rhythm Gland. This specialized organ allows Nymphs to survive virtually any environmental conditions for hours at a time, by generating heat, acting as a cooler and even storing large amounts of air or moisture.

Effects: The Rhythm Gland allows Nymphs to survive any Environmental effect or condition for a number of hours equal to their Constitution Modifier.

Abilities

Winged Flight

You gain a fly speed equal to your movement speed. Every Minute(6 Rounds) of flight during combat causes you to lose 1 Stamina and you cannot rest while flying. Sustained Flight causes you to lose 1 Stamina every hour. Having one or more of your wings wounded causes you to immediately lose the ability to fly until recovered. Being knocked prone while flying causes you to fall until you are able to use 3 meters of movement to “stand” and resume flying. You cannot Fly while wearing Heavy Armor. You can carry 1 small or smaller creature while flying.

Increased Space Requirements: While walking requires only as much space as your character occupies to continue movement, Flying upward or horizontally requires an additional Meter of space on any one side of your character. Smaller spaces do not allow your wings to flap and provide lift. If you are traveling downward during your flying movement then the above rule does not apply.
